It’s like Halloween for adults at any time of the year. The only candy is fun, and a boost in self esteem from all the admirers of their costume handiwork.
The greatest feeling of going to one of these conventions is that you’re not alone in your geekiness or geekdom. You find people who have similar interests, similar personalities, or just people wanting to have fun. As for cosplay, for one day (or weekend) you can be whoever you want. You can be yourself, or someone totally different, all while letting your geek flag fly.
At work maybe you wear a suit or a button up shirt, but at these events you can be Superman. Child and Parent can be video game characters and can enjoy a day of fun. The biggest thing about these events is that ALL are welcome as long as you go in with a positive attitude. Jockiest jock, prettiest cheerleader, geekiest nerd, or norm average, all are welcome with open arms without judgement. Go, have fun, and let your geek flag fly!
